    SUS304 chemical composition:

    Types 304 and 304L have very good drawability. Their combination of low yield strength and high elongation permits successful forming of complex shapes.
    However, these grades work harden rapidly. To relieve stresses produced in severe forming or spinning, parts should be full annealed or stress-relief annealed as soon as possible after forming.

    High hardness and strength are achieved through cold working. In the annealed condition, Types 304 and 304L are very ductile and can be cold worked easily by roll forming, deep drawing, bending, and other common fabricating methods. Since the material work hardens rapidly, in-process annealing may be necessary to restore ductility and to lower hardness.

    SUS304 chemical composition:

    The maximum temperature to which Type 304 can be exposed continuously without appreciable scaling is about 1650°F (899°C). For intermittent exposure, the maximum exposure temperature is about 1500°F (816°C).

    Type 304 is non-hardenable by heat treatment. Annealing: Heat to 1900 - 2050°F (1038 - 1121°C), then cool rapidly.
    Thin strip sections may be air cooled, but heavy sections should be water quenched to minimize exposure in the carbide precipitation region.
    Stress Relief Annealing: Cold worked parts should be stress relieved at 750°F (399°C) for 1/2 to 2 hours.

    Type 304 Stainless Steel is a variation of the basic 18-8 grade, Type 302, with a higher chromium and lower carbon content.
    Its lower carbon minimizes chromium carbide precipitation due to welding and its susceptibility to intergranular corrosion.
    In many instances, Type 304 can be used in the “as-welded” condition, while Type 302 must be annealed in order to retain adequate corrosion resistance.

    SUS304 chemical composition:

    Types 304 and 304L exhibit excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive media including solutions used in the chemical, textile, petroleum and dairy and food industries, and to atmospheric exposures. The low carbon content of Type 304, and especially 304L, by reducing or eliminating carbide precipitation due to welding, makes these types of stainless suitable for a much wider range of corrosive service than Type 302.

    SUS304L chemical composition:

    Type 304L is an extra low-carbon variation of Type 304 with a 0.03% maximum carbon content that eliminates carbide precipitation due to welding.

    As a result, this alloy can be used in the “as welded” condition, even in severe corrosive conditions. In many cases it eliminates the necessity of annealing weldments except for applications specifying stress relief.

    Type 304L has slightly lower mechanical properties than Type 304.

    SUS316 chemical composition:

    Type 316 is an austenitic chromiumnickel stainless steel containing molybdenum.
    This addition increases general corrosion resistance, improves resistance to pitting from chloride ion solutions, and provides increased strength at elevated temperatures.

    Properties are similar to those of Type 304 except that this alloy is somewhat stronger at elevated temperatures.

    Corrosion resistance is improved, particularly against sulfuric, hydrochloric, acetic, formic and tartaric acids; acid sulfates and alkaline chlorides.

    Type 316 is also austenitic, non-magnetic, and thermally nonhardenable stainless steel like Type 304. The carbon content is held to 0.08% maximum, while the nickel content is increased slightly. What distinguishes Type 316 from Type 304 is the addition of molybdenum up to a maximum of 3%.

    Molybdenum increases the corrosion resistance of this chromium-nickel alloy to withstand attack by many industrial chemicals and solvents, and, in particular, inhibits pitting caused by chlorides. As such, molybdenum is one of the single most useful alloying additives in the fight against corrosion.

    SUS316 chemical composition:

    Types 316 and 316L Stainless Steels exhibit better corrosion resistance than Type 304.

    They provide excellent pitting resistance and good resistance to most chemicals involved in the paper, textile and photographic industries.

    By virtue of the molybdenum addition, Type 316 can withstand corrosive attack by sodium and calcium brines, hypochlorite solutions, phosphoric acid; and the sulfite liquors and sulfurous acids used in the paper pulp industry. This alloy, therefore, is specified for industrial equipment that handles the corrosive process chemicals used to produce inks, rayons, photographic chemicals, paper, textiles, bleaches, and rubber. Type 316 is also used extensively for surgical implants within the hostile environment of the body.

    Type 316 is the main stainless used in the marine environment, with the exception of fasteners and other items where strength and wear resistance are needed, then Type 304 (18-8) is typically used.

    SUS316L chemical composition:

    Type 316L is an extra-low carbon version of Type 316 that minimizes harmful carbide precipitation due to welding.

    Typical uses include exhaust manifolds, furnace parts, heat exchangers, jet engine parts, pharmaceutical and photographic equipment, valve and pump trim, chemical equipment , digesters , tanks , evaporators, pulp, paper and textile processing equipment, parts exposed to marine atmospheres and tubing.

    Type 316L is used extensively for weldments where its immunity to carbide precipitation due to welding assures optimum corrosion resistance.

    For severe environments. Of course, there are many industrial processes that require a higher level of resistance to corrosion than Type 304 can offer.  For these applications, Type 316 is the answer.

    SUS430 chemical composition:

    430 is a low-carbon plain chromium ferritic stainless steel. The steel has good corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments and good resistance to oxidation at elevated temperatures. In the annealed condition the steel is ductile, does not harden excessively during cold work and can be formed using a large variety of roll forming or mild stretch-bending operations, as well as the more common drawing and bending processes. The steel has limited weldability and should not be used in the as welded condition for dynamic or impact loaded structures. Being a ferritic material, 430 is liable to brittle fracture at sub-zero temperatures, and cannot be used in cryogenic applications. As the steel does not contain nickel or molybdenum, it is cheaper than any of the 300 series steels.

    Ferritic:
    Ferritic steels have ferrite (body centered cubic crystal) as their main phase. These steels contain iron and chromium, based on the Type 430 composition of 17% chromium. Ferritic steel is less ductile than austenitic steel and is not hardenable by heat treatment.

    430 is a simple corrosion and heat-resisting grade and finds application in areas where mildly corrosive conditions occur or where scaling resistance at moderate temperatures is required. Typical applications include: Automotive trim, architectural applications such as industrial roofing and wall cladding, kitchen utensils, sinks, washing machine parts and industrial pipe and tube. Materials handling equipment in the mining and sugar industry. Heat resisting applications up to 759oC.
